Chemnitz municipal music school to become a conservatory
City Council approves phase II of the municipal music school concept
The aim of Phase II of the music school concept is to transform the municipal music school into a conservatoire. A conservatory promises the citizens of Chemnitz a high quality of music teaching, an open and attractive event and education centre as well as a training centre for music teachers. The basic requirements for a conservatoire, such as size, quality and appeal, are basically met by the Chemnitz Municipal Music School. However, adjustments need to be made in terms of personnel and structure as well as optimisations to and within the building.
The aim of the second phase of the concept is to increase the number of positions. To this end, it is planned, for example, to convert the freelance work of the music teachers into an employment relationship. Furthermore, the structure of the department management is to be adapted.
The concept also provides for a continuation of fee increases of 5% every two years. The next adjustment is scheduled for the 2019/2020 school year. In addition, the Chemnitz Municipal Music School is planning further programmes such as "Painting in connection with early musical education", "Increased integration at schools" and "Lessons at schools and daycare centres".
Further construction work is planned for the music school building in the coming years. For example, the basement area in the west wing of the building is to be drained and barrier-free access is to be created. After further refurbishment, the basement rooms can be used both as additional classrooms and for the establishment of a new music school club.
Among other things, the title of conservatory is associated with being a place for training music teachers. For this reason, co-operation with music colleges is being sought in which trainee teachers can spend a semester at the Municipal Music School.
Short-term parking spaces are available in Hohe Strasse and Gerichtsstrasse until a long-term car park solution is realised.
