Chemnitz Municipal Music School involved in the programme of the Saxon Mozart Festival

Young pianists present themselves at the "Long Piano Night" in the Kreuzkirche church Closing weekend under the motto "Chemnitz sings!" with various participatory formats at the Küchwaldbühne and on the theatre square

The Chemnitz Municipal Music School is once again involved in the programme of the 2014 Saxon Mozart Festival, which is being held from 9 to 25 May under the patronage of the Mayor of Chemnitz, Barbara Ludwig. Music school director Nancy Gibson: "Students and teachers at our music school are delighted and of course proud that we are able to present ourselves in the programme at such a top-class artistic event as the Saxon Mozart Festival. The Chemnitz Municipal Music School thus emphatically demonstrates its profile as an outstanding educational and training institution in Chemnitz, and we are also involved in the Mozart Festival with our family and educational programmes, which are very popular. There has been a close and mutually enriching relationship between our school and the Mozart Society for many years. In this context, we would also like to thank all our supporters who donated almost 1,100 euros on the opening evening of the Mozartfest in favour of a new concert grand piano for the Municipal Music School!"

The Chemnitz Municipal Music School is participating in the programme of the 2014 Saxon Mozart Festival from 9 to 25 May with various projects: For example, with the concert project "Viva la musica!" (11 May) organised jointly with the Robert Schumann Philharmonic Orchestra in the Opera House and one day later (12 May) in the Haus auf dem Kaßberg as host for one of the prizewinners' concerts of the International Rotary Music Competition Moscow included in the Mozartfest programme. The departmental concert "Tasten plus" on 15 May in the hall of the music school. The "Tasten plus" departmental concert on 15 May in the hall of the music school with 4- to 6-hand pieces on the piano, accordion or in accompaniment, performed by music students from the institution, was also dedicated to the Mozart Festival this time, as were the villa concerts, in which highly talented students from the preparatory department of the Chemnitz Municipal Music School played music in Chemnitz villas on Sunday afternoon (18 May). The monthly music café for children, organised by the music school and Kraftwerk, was also part of the Mozartfest programme on Sunday afternoon.

After the opening week, the Chemnitz Municipal Music School is also involved in the second week of events at the Mozart Festival: In addition to music professionals, three music students will present their artistic level in the "Long Piano Night - Mozart and Mozart in Jazz", which will take place on Friday (23 May) from 8 pm in the Kreuzkirche on the Kaßberg: Annegret Neumann (teacher: Michael Fröhlich), Jonathan Hofmann (teacher: Thomas Stöß) and Jonas Otte (teacher: Jenny Mehlhorn-Taubner).
Music school director Nancy Gibson: "With the performance of our three young pianists in the Mozartfest programme, the piano department of our music school has a wonderful opportunity to draw the public's attention to the overall high teaching quality of the participating teachers - we are very pleased about this!"

Finally, the Saxon Mozart Festival from Friday (23 May) to Sunday (25 May) will also be held under the motto "Chemnitz sings!" and invites you to a variety of encounters with choral singing: These include the welcome concert with the choirs Ventilky from Usti nad Labem, Chemnitz's Czech twin town, the Finnish choir Tuuslaulajat, Timbretone from Prague and the choir of Chemnitz University of Technology on Friday, 23 May, 7:30 pm, in the Jakobikirche. On Saturday, 24. May, there will be a concert in the morning from 10:30 a.m. to a walking concert with choirs through Chemnitz city centre with stops at Theaterplatz, Kunstsammlungen, Karl Marx Monument, City Hall, Versteinerter Wald and in the afternoon from 2 p.m. at the KüchwaldbühneIn the afternoon from 2 p.m. at the Küchwaldbühne for the "Musical Sound Trail" and a concert organised by the 100Mozartkinder ensemble and the ZUS Youth Art School from Chomutov in the Czech Republic, which has a partnership with the Chemnitz Municipal Music School. Afterwards, the programme includes family singing on the Küchwald stage from 4 p.m. and the midnight singing (also in a participatory format) begins at 10 p.m. on the theatre square. The renowned ensemble amarcord will be giving a concert in St Peter's Church from 8.30 pm. On Sunday, 25 May, two special artistic encounters with choral singing are also on the programme at the end of the Saxon Mozart Festival: the festive concert "Männerchor im Wandel der Zeiten" at 4 pm in St. Georgskirche Rabenstein on the occasion of the Mozart Festival. Georgskirche Rabenstein on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the Männerchor Rottluff 1839 e. V. and in the evening, at 7 pm, the Mozartfest closing concert by the Kreuzkirche choir under the direction of Steffen Walther.
