"Dracula" will soon be a guest in Chemnitz and Chomutov: students and teachers from the Chemnitz Municipal Music School and the Chomutov Youth Art School will be presenting their joint art project "Dracula" on two evenings: The open-air premiere is on Thursday, 5 June, 10 pm, with a performance at the market in the Czech town of Chomutov. The following day, all those involved in the project will be guests in Chemnitz: invitations are extended for Friday, 6 June, 7 pm, in the small hall of the Stadthalle. Tickets for the performance in Chemnitz can already be purchased in advance from the Ticket Service - tickets for adults cost ten euros and eight euros for children up to twelve.
Music school director Nancy Gibson on the joint art project: "With the performance of "Dracula" prepared jointly by our two music schools, visitors can expect an extremely original, exciting and varied evening of music and dance in a very interesting dramaturgy. The evening will be organised by 50 Czech and German musicians and 30 Czech ballet dancers from the Chomutov Youth Art School and the Chemnitz Municipal Music School. We are very excited to see how the performance will be received and look forward to an interested audience on both evenings."
The story of "Dracula" was written in 1897 by the Irish writer Bram Stoker and is considered to be the first and still the most famous vampire story, which has also been adapted many times for theatre, film and as a musical. The ballet will be accompanied by pieces by Antonín Dvořák, Edvard Grieg, Béla Bártók and Georges Bizet. The premiere of the performance with music students from the two music schools in Chemnitz and Chomutov was in June 2013: The "Unisono" project, which was jointly realised in 2012/2013, was presented in Chemnitz (small hall of the town hall) and in Chomutov (open-air festival on the market square) to great audience response and impressed with an artistically sophisticated result. The project is part of the Czech-German Future Fund programme. In the course of the project, a German-Czech school symphony was also created, which performed its final concerts at an almost professional level and to great public acclaim.
With the "Unisono" project and its successful performance, the school partnership between the Chemnitz Municipal Music School and the Chomutov Youth Art School, which was launched in April 2011, was raised to a new level following initial artistic encounters. In 2014, the orchestra will once again be conducted by two Chemnitz ensemble leaders - Andreas Grohmann and Andreas Weber - and a Czech ensemble leader, Kateÿina Lesáková.A new feature of the two performances on 5 and 6 June 2014 is that a narrator - Chemnitz actor Frank Höhnerbach - will accompany the audience through the story of "Dracula" throughout the evening.
