Chemnitz Monastery: Stations of the inventory from 1541
Event to mark the town's 875th anniversary - 15 February, 6 p.m. at the Schloßbergmuseum
On Thursday, 15 February at 6 p.m., Dr Thomas Schuler will give a lecture on the "Chemnitz Monastery: Stations of the Inventory of 1541" at the Schloßbergmuseum, Schloßstraße 12. Admission is free.
Due to limited capacity, tickets can be reserved now at the Schloßbergmuseum during opening hours, Tuesday to Sunday, 11 am to 6 pm.
In his lecture, Dr Thomas Schuler traces the path of the visitators who were entrusted with the dissolution of the monastery by Duke Moritz in 1541. A tour of the former Benedictine monastery will provide a vivid insight into the use and layout of the rooms, which can still be seen today in the rooms of the Schloßberg Museum. Despite much destruction, decay and remodelling, much of the former monastery complex has been preserved in the buildings. The world of the medieval monks, their lives and their activities in everyday life and liturgy can be experienced through these stone testimonies.
This year, Chemnitz is celebrating its 875th anniversary. A joint project by the Chemnitz History Society, the Chemnitz Saxon Industrial Museum, the Schloßberg Museum, the Chemnitz State Museum of Archaeology and the Chemnitz City Archive entitled "875 years of history in twelve months" will honour the city's history.
