The background
The city of Chemnitz is continuing the Chemnitz Model, Stage 4 and is planning a northern extension to Limbach-Oberfrohna. In 2021 and 2022, a variant study was carried out with broad public participation. The aim was to find a suitable route for a rail connection between Leipziger Straße/Bornaer Straße in Chemnitz and Limbach-Oberfrohna.
In October 2022, Chemnitz City Council decided on two preferred variants. Verkehrsverbund Mittelsachsen GmbH (VMS) is responsible for the further planning process and the specific project planning.
