For the Chemnitz Model - Stage 4 (CM4), a variant analysis is currently being carried out to determine the route in the area between Bornaer Straße and Limbach-Oberfrohna. The aim is to find a route between Bornaer Straße and Limbach-Oberfrohna that is suitable for the organisation of a rail link. A comprehensive assessment of all important interests will be carried out.

The largest number of line variants is possible on this section of the overall route (see appendix). Due to the large number of interests of neighbouring districts of the city of Chemnitz (including the Röhrsdorf district), the city of Limbach-Oberfrohna (including the Kändler district) and the municipality of Hartmannsdorf, it was agreed with the project sponsor Verkehrsverbund Mittelsachsen (VMS) that the city of Chemnitz would carry out the planning support for the line determination as part of the preliminary planning. The City of Chemnitz would like to work closely with all parties involved.

The aim of the study is to obtain a preferred route for the Chemnitz model that is politically acceptable to the majority, accepted by society as a whole and reliable in the subsequent planning approval procedure.

In 2019, the necessary resolutions were passed for the next stage of the Chemnitz model from Chemnitz to Limbach-Oberfrohna (Chemnitz model - stage 4). The route is to be planned, plan-approved and implemented in five sections.
