Thomas Billhardt, My adventures with the camera - on 17 April, 7 pm
The Vietnam War, Cuba, Beirut - Thomas Billhardt has become famous for his iconic photographs. The renowned photographer will be presenting his biography "My Adventures with the Camera" at the TIETZ as part of the Chemnitz Literature Days LESELUST on Tuesday 17 April at 7 pm. Thomas Billhardt, born in Chemnitz in 1937, took portraits of people on four continents with his camera. He had his breakthrough as a photographer in the 1960s with motifs on Berlin's Alexanderplatz. His pictures of the Vietnam War and other world events were internationally recognised. Photographs of children were at the centre of his commitment. He was therefore also commissioned by UNICEF to depict the everyday lives of children in various regions of the world.
In his book, Thomas Billhardt, a man of images, presents himself as a narrator of episodes and anecdotes. Self-confident and self-deprecating, he reports on his successes, emotions and mistakes. He does not ignore his private life and portrays himself in a surprising way.
