"Chemnitz is spinning its wheels"

CITY CYCLING enters its third round - campaign period from 1 to 21 September

From Saturday, 1 September, all Chemnitz residents are once again invited to take part in the CITY CYCLING campaign and diligently collect kilometres.

For the first time, there will be a final tour through Chemnitz. On Thursday, 21 September, from 4 pm, cycling enthusiasts can gather at the start and end point at Brückenstraße 35. The start time is 5 pm. The cycle tour lasts around two hours and is suitable for anyone aged 12 and over. The route is 13.9 kilometres long.

This year, for the first time, there will be three CITY CYCLING stars from the Chemnitz population. They are representing Chemnitz in a special way and are doing completely without a car for 21 days. The three people are Martin Arzt, Kai Rösler and Jana Kühn. Their stories are available at www.chemnitz.de/stadtradelnblog.

App to join in

The CITY CYCLING app can be used to track the kilometres cycled during the campaign period. This tracking data is useful for transport planning in the city of Chemnitz. To date, there has been no cycling data collected over a long, continuous period. The data was already analysed by the Traffic and Civil Engineering Office in 2022. This year, even more participants are being asked to track their kilometres using the app. This will make the data density more statistically reliable. The more people who use the app in Chemnitz, the more representative the data will be for cycle traffic planning.

Background to the CITY CYCLING campaign

The Climate Alliance's international campaign has been running since 2008 and Chemnitz is taking part for the third time. Anyone who lives in Chemnitz can take part; for the first time, wheelchair users can also take part in the campaign. In addition, all muscle-powered bicycles and e-bikes are permitted. All journeys with a start and end point will be counted. This does not include ergometers, training rides and competitions. The kilometres can be collected using the CITY CYCLING app.
