Chemnitz is one of the new hydrogen regions in Germany
The region is one of the winners in the HyExperts category
The Chemnitz region (city of Chemnitz, Erzgebirge district, Zwickau, Central Saxony and Vogtland) is one of the new 30 hydrogen regions in Germany. Andreas Scheuer, Federal Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI), today announced the winners of the second round of the "HyLand - Hydrogen Regions in Germany" competition in the "HyStarter" and "HyExperts" categories.
The city of Chemnitz (region) is one of the winners in the HyExperts category. In this category, funding of up to 400,000 euros will be made available to the local authorities of the winning regions. This can be used to commission consulting, planning and services. The aim is to create a realisable overall concept for a regional hydrogen economy.
The Environmental Agency of the City of Chemnitz will now submit the funding application in consultation with the HZwo e.V. network and then put the services out to tender.
The HZwo network, which is based at Chemnitz University of Technology, had already been awarded funding of 60 million euros on 2 September. This means that future research into hydrogen will also be based in Chemnitz.
The Chemnitz concept is backed by a broad alliance of Saxon companies, research institutions and universities. In addition, associations and state politicians are supporting the project based in Chemnitz. The HIC stakeholders have proven expertise in hydrogen technologies along the entire value chain.
