Chemnitz hiking trails visible in the themed city map
To coincide with Hiking Day, which takes place nationwide on 14 May, all marked hiking trails in Chemnitz and the surrounding area can now be seen on the city of Chemnitz's themed city map. The themed city map can be found here.
A total of 322 kilometres of marked hiking trails run through Chemnitz and the surrounding area, spread over 22 paths. From short circular hiking trails such as the Hirschfänger circular trail in Grüna (2.6 km) and the Sternmühle circular trail (4.6 km) to very extensive circular hiking trails such as the circular trail around Chemnitz (59 km) and connecting trails such as the Altchemnitz - Altenhain hiking trail (12.4 km). Altenhain (12.4 km) to long-distance hiking trails such as the Ostsee-Saaletalsperren long-distance hiking trail, which runs 16.1 kilometres through Chemnitz.
Capital of Culture projects have added further trails such as the Lohse-Uhlig-Steig (16.9 km) through Kleinolbersdorf and Altenhain and the Höhenweg between Harthau and Adelsberg.
The themed city map provides a wealth of information about Chemnitz: from plots of land to municipal playgrounds, schools, nature reserves, public transport stops, electoral districts, streets and buildings and much more.
The hiking trails were added to the themed city map in a joint effort by the volunteer hiking trail wardens, the green spaces department and the City of Chemnitz's Office for Information Processing. To see them, open the "content tree" at the bottom left. The hiking trails can then be made visible under "Leisure".
