Chemnitz flood helpers honoured with award for their commitment

Invitation for media representatives for Monday, 15 September, 5 p.m., smac

The Free State of Saxony is now honouring citizens of Chemnitz for their efforts during the floods last year with a festive event to award the Saxon Flood Relief Order. The event will take place on Monday, 15 September 2014 at 5 pm at the Saxon Museum of Archaeology Chemnitz (smac).

Representatives of the media are cordially invited to attend.

The Mayor of Chemnitz, Barbara Ludwig, will welcome the 250 or so citizens to be honoured and give a speech in recognition of the dedicated efforts of many Chemnitz residents during the floods. State Secretary Dr Fritz Jäckel, Ministry of the Environment and Agriculture, then honoured Chemnitz's civic commitment in a speech on behalf of the Free State and, together with the Lord Mayor, presented 20 Chemnitz flood helpers - representing all those honoured - with certificates and flood helper medals. All other flood helpers receive their awards at the end of the event.

Uwe Thuß, Managing Director of Büroland in Beckerstraße in Chemnitz and himself also affected by the floods, will speak on behalf of the honoured flood helpers.

The festive event will be accompanied by music from the Chemnitz Mozart Children.
