On Monday, 27 April at 10 a.m., Mayor Knut Kunze and René Kraus, Head of the Fire Department, will present the new operational clothing of the professional and volunteer fire brigades in the training room of Fire Station 1, Schadestraße 11.
Representatives of the media are cordially invited to attend. Among other things, the new clothing will be demonstrated in an operational scenario.
In addition to functional improvements, such as an RF-ID chip, the operational clothing will be presented in a new colour scheme. The colour "sand" offers better visibility and differentiation in the dark.
The replacement of the clothing has become necessary due to the end of production by the manufacturer. Since the second quarter, all members of the fire brigade have been successively equipped. In addition to a set of clothing for firefighting, a set for technical assistance is also being procured. The total costs amount to around 3.6 million euros.
Over a period of three months, the members of a project group tested potential new turnout gear from various manufacturers. The focus was on criteria such as protective effect, ergonomics, freedom of movement and visibility. Protective clothing of performance levels 1 and 2 in accordance with DIN EN 469:2020 was tested in static and dynamic test procedures as well as under real operating conditions.
