Chemnitz fire brigade presents new drone unit

On Thursday, 1 February at 4 p.m., the Chemnitz Fire Department will be presenting its new drone unit at Fire Station 3, Jagdschänkenstraße 53. The head of the emergency services department, Rainer Walter, other representatives of the Chemnitz professional fire brigade, the city fire brigade association and members of the Chemnitz fire brigade's drone unit will put a DJI M30T drone into service and be available to answer questions.

Representatives of the media are invited to attend.

This was preceded by an intensive, twelve-month preparation phase. 15 camera operators had to be specially trained in the safe handling of this technology.

The advantages of the technology can be seen in various areas of operation:

  • - Reconnaissance and situational awareness: The drone enables rapid reconnaissance of areas that are difficult to access, provides precise information about the extent of a fire, the position of people and potential hazards.
  • - Search and rescue operations: Thanks to thermal imaging cameras, people can be located more quickly and precisely in smoke or darkness.
  • - Monitoring fires: Drones enable aerial monitoring of fires to better understand their progress and make strategic decisions.
  • - Communication and coordination: The drone is equipped with communication technologies to improve the connection between the emergency services. Live video transmissions provide important information in real time.
  • - Documentation and analysis: High-resolution cameras enable detailed documentation of the incident site, which can be used for subsequent analyses, reports and training.

Using the drone during firefighting operations enables the Chemnitz fire service to respond to emergencies even faster and more effectively. This technological advancement not only contributes to the safety of the emergency services, but also significantly increases the efficiency of rescue and extinguishing operations.
