Chemnitz fire brigade donates sleeping bags for the homeless

Support for the "Sleep out" campaign on 14 August on Theaterplatz

Most people take a roof over their heads for granted. But not everyone has a home. The "Sleep Out" campaign aims to draw attention to this deplorable state of affairs. To mark the occasion, the city of Chemnitz is donating 20 sleeping bags, which will later be given to homeless people. "The Chemnitz fire brigade always has a stock of sleeping bags for emergencies," explains head of department Rene Kraus. "Before they have to be discarded after a few years, we donate them to people who urgently need them."

The sleeping bags can be used on the evening by people who do not have their own sleeping bag, as well as homeless people. After the campaign, the sleeping bags will be collected and cleaned by all those not in need and then handed over to the emergency shelter in Heinrich-Schütz-Str., among others.

Background:
The "Sleep Out" campaign will take place on 14 August on Theaterplatz in Chemnitz. It is a joint campaign organised by the Rosalie fundraising piggy bank and the Chemnitz Film Nights. It aims to raise awareness for those people who have to sleep on park benches or the hard floor. To this end, there will be discussions with those affected from 6 p.m. onwards, who will provide insights into the reasons for homelessness in Germany. There will also be an auction in aid of the homeless charity. Afterwards, you can spend the night in a sleeping bag on the theatre square to show solidarity, make a statement and raise awareness.
