Chemnitz figure skating pair wins European Championship silver medal
The Chemnitz figure skating pair Aljona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy won the silver medal at the European Championships in Zagreb. With an impressive free skate, they almost made it to the top of the podium. In the end, however, they were beaten by the defending champions from Russia, Tatjana Wolossoschar and Maxim Trankow.
Mayor Barbara Ludwig: "I congratulate Alyona and Robin on their silver medal. Even if they lacked that little bit of luck for the title this time, the European Championship runner-up is a great success. And the cards will be reshuffled at the upcoming World Championships. I wish Aljona and Robin every success in their big goal of defending their title."
The World Figure Skating Championships will take place from 10 - 17 March in London, Ontario, Canada.
The Chemnitz ice skating pair are coached by former figure skating world champion Ingo Steuer. In their career, Savchenko and Szolkowy have won four European Championship titles and three European Championship runner-up titles, three World Championship victories, one World Championship silver and one World Championship bronze medal and a bronze medal at the Olympic Games.
