Chemnitz Environmental Prize 2014 awarded to children and young people - twelve committed and creative projects honoured in particular

In 2014, a total of 25 entries were submitted to the city's environmental department to take part in the competition. The winners were once again selected by a jury: Margitta Clauß (eins energie in sachsen GmbH), Kerstin Link (Südsachsen Wasser GmbH), Ingrid Kasiske (Environmental Centre), Katja Neukirchner (School Administration Office), Heike Schreiter (Office for Family and Social Affairs) and Dr Thomas Scharbrodt (Head of the Environmental Office) as well as Ines Saborowski-Richter (Member of the City Council and State Parliament).

Award ceremony and prize winners

At a festive and atmospheric event in the presence of City Treasurer Berthold Brehm, representatives of the participating companies and the City of Chemnitz will honour the young award winners with the Chemnitz Environmental Award 2014 on Thursday, 12 June at 2 p.m. in Lecture Hall 207 of Chemnitz University of Technology (Building Street of Nations 62). The event will be opened by the host, Arnold van Zyl, Rector of Chemnitz University of Technology. After the official part, children and young people are cordially invited to (further) exciting and educational activities in the creative centre and in the student laboratory Wunderland Physik - two special in-house facilities of the TUC for future scientists in spé.

The prize winners in the day-care centre age category are:

1st prize: €300, certificates and a small gift for the project "Environmental protection - What can I do for our planet?" - the children of the Katharinenstraße daycare centre are being honoured.

2nd prize: €200, certificates and a small gift for the "The - we save the forest - project" - awarded to the AWO children's home "Schmetterling" at Friedrich-Hähnel-Straße 7.

3rd prize. 150, certificates and a small gift for the project "The birds in our garden" - awarded to the Schönherrstraße day-care centre.

The winners in the primary school age group are:

1st prize: €200, certificates and a small gift for the project "Building nesting boxes" - awarded to children from the Baumgarten primary school in Grüna.

2nd prize: €200, certificates and a small gift for the project "Promoting environmental awareness with all senses" - awarded to children from the Ferdinandstraße after-school care centre.

3rd prize: €200, certificates and a small gift for the project "We protect our environment!" - awarded to children from the Fritz-Matschke-Straße after-school care centre.

The winners in the age group 5 to 8 are:

1st prize: €300, certificates and a small gift for the project "Ne Tüte? But of course!" - awarded to the children of the chemistry working group of solaris Förderzentrum für Jugend & Umwelt gGmbH Sachsen, Neefestraße 88b.

2nd prize: €200, certificates and a small gift for the project "A biotope develops, observing, evaluating, caring" - awarded to the children of the ecology research group from Einsiedel grammar school.

3rd prize: €150, certificates and a small gift for the project "Meadow noise versus road noise" - awarded to Falco Eigner from the ecology research group at Einsiedel grammar school.

The prize winners in the 15 to 20 age group are

1st prize: €300, a certificate and a small gift for the "Solar Power Station" project - awarded to the young people from the AG JugendSolarisProjekt (JSP) at the solaris Förderzentrum für Jugend & Umwelt gGmbH Sachsen, Neefestraße 82.

2nd prize: €200, a certificate and a small gift for the project "Targeted use of light, doesn't harm nature?" - awarded to Camilla Eigner from the Ecology Research Working Group at Einsiedel Grammar School.

3rd prize: €150, a certificate and a small gift for the project "Cost-effective mobile detection of harmful and hazardous substances" - awarded to Marcel Seerig from the Electronics and Computer Science working group at solaris Förderzentrum für Jugend & Umwelt gGmbH Sachsen.
