Chemnitz environmental award for children and young people enters the next round
The Chemnitz Environmental Award 2024 has been launched. From now until 8 April 2024, Chemnitz children and young people up to the age of 20 can submit environmental projects to the City of Chemnitz Environmental Agency. The projects can deal with any environmental topic, such as avoiding waste or building nesting boxes. They can be submitted as individual or group projects by private individuals, organisations or associations.
The first three places in the age categories of day-care centre, primary school, class 5 to 8, class 9 to 12 and young people up to the age of 20 will receive cash prizes.
"The traditional education campaign focuses on raising awareness at an early stage. The pleasingly high number of participants of nursery and primary school age last year in particular shows that the topic of environmental protection is present in Chemnitz. In times of advancing climate change, early childhood environmental education is particularly important. I would like to thank all parents, educators and teachers for their help in realising the projects," said Carina Kühnel, Acting Head of the City of Chemnitz Environmental Department.

In 2023, 668 children and young people took part in the educational campaign organised by the City of Chemnitz Environmental Office. They submitted 26 projects dealing with a wide range of topics. The submissions can be viewed in the online exhibition for the 2023 Environmental Award.
The Chemnitz Environmental Award campaign has been organised annually since 1991 following a city council resolution.
