The Chemnitz Environmental Prize will be awarded again next year. Chemnitz children and young people up to the age of 20 have until 12 April 2026 to submit their environmental protection projects to the City of Chemnitz Environmental Agency. There are no limits to creativity: whether it's a rubbish collection campaign, planting trees or researching innovative topics.

Carina Kühnel, Head of the Environmental Department of the City of Chemnitz: "The commitment of children and young people to protecting the environment is becoming increasingly important in times of climate change, so that events such as the Gohrischheide fire in Saxony do not become more frequent. Engaging with these issues at an early age can contribute to sustainable development in Chemnitz and the region."

Background information
The Chemnitz Environmental Prize has been awarded annually since 1991 by resolution of the city council and will celebrate its 35th anniversary in 2026. In 2025, 451 children and young people from Chemnitz and the Capital of Culture region took part in this educational campaign organised by the Environmental Agency. They submitted 35 projects dealing with a wide range of topics.
