Chemnitz Environmental Award enters the next round
Projects can be submitted until 25 April 2025
The Chemnitz Environmental Award for children and young people is once again being organised. Young people from Chemnitz have until 25 April 2025 to submit their environmental protection projects to the City of Chemnitz Environmental Agency. New in the year of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025: Children and young people up to the age of 20 from the Capital of Culture region are also eligible to take part and will be considered in a special category.
Carina Kühnel, Head of the Environmental Office of the City of Chemnitz: "The commitment of children and young people to protecting the environment is becoming increasingly important in times of climate change and the associated decline in biodiversity, among other things. Engaging with these issues at an early age can contribute to sustainable development in Chemnitz and the region."
The submission forms and further information on the Chemnitz Environmental Award for Children and Young People can be found at www.chemnitz.de/umweltpreis.
Background
The Chemnitz Environmental Award has been organised annually since 1991 on the basis of a city council resolution. In 2024, 395 children and young people took part in the environmental department's educational campaign. They submitted 31 projects dealing with a wide range of topics. The submissions can be seen in the online exhibition for the Environmental Award 2024 at www.chemnitz.de/umweltpreisausstellung. This means that last year's campaign was below the average participation of 515 children and young people in previous years.
