Chemnitz commits to the Diversity Charter

On Tuesday, 23 May - German Diversity Day - at 2 pm, all Chemnitz residents are invited to the TOGETHER FOR DIVERSITY event on the canteen forecourt on the campus at Reichenhainer Straße 55. The campaign is a joint event organised by the City of Chemnitz, Chemnitz University of Technology and the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 GmbH. All three initiators are signatories of the Diversity Charter.
Ralph Burghart, Mayor for Human Resources, Finance and Education, signed the "Diversity Charter" on behalf of the City of Chemnitz back in February. In doing so, the City of Chemnitz, with around 4,500 employees, joined a nationwide diversity network of companies and institutions in Germany.
By signing the "Diversity Charter", the City of Chemnitz has committed itself to creating a respectful working environment for all its employees. As an employer, the City of Chemnitz is committed to creating a working culture that provides equal opportunities for all and encourages them to develop their individual talents and potential - regardless of age, ethnicity, gender or gender identity.regardless of age, ethnic origin and nationality, gender and gender identity, physical and mental abilities, religion and ideology, sexual orientation and social background.
At the heart of the "Diversity Charter" is the commitment to create a working environment that is free of prejudice and characterised by mutual respect. More than 4,900 companies and institutions have already signed the charter. This represents around 14.7 million employees in Germany.
The TOGETHER FOR DIVERSITY day of action next Tuesday will include a short speech by Steffen Biernath from the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 GmbH team programme on the "Special highlighting of diverse structures in our society". Afterwards, attendees will be able to record their wishes and thoughts for the future on a large "Wall of Wishes". Finally, the participants will form "human letters" together in the letters D, D and T (initial letters for German Diversity Day), which will be digitally captured in a group photo.
