Chemnitz City Library expands its database offering
Research in 300 daily and weekly newspapers and 900 trade and consumer magazines
From 10 January 2018, customers of Chemnitz City Library will have access to the extensive range of press services provided by the information service provider GBI-Genios. This is a web-based information solution specially developed for libraries for researching newspapers and magazines.
An important aim of Chemnitz City Library is to provide assistance to school pupils, trainees and students in acquiring information skills beyond Wikipedia, Google & Co. and in the preparation of academic papers.
The GENIOS press database is ideal for pupils thanks to its user-friendly interface, comprehensive research functions and variety of topics. It offers access to around 300 German and international daily and weekly newspapers as well as around 900 trade and consumer magazines on 40 different topics ranging from A for cars to W for business. The portfolio includes regional newspapers such as Freie Presse, Leipziger Volkszeitung, Dresdner Neueste Nachrichten and Sächsische Zeitung as well as national newspapers such as Die Welt, TAZ, Tagesspiegel and Zeit. It is also possible to search for articles in various magazines, such as Spiegel, Focus and Geo, Zeit Wissen and Zeit Geschichte. The stock is updated daily and goes back up to 20 years.
Users can log in via www.stadtbibliothek-chemnitz.de or https://bib-chemnitz.genios.de using their customer number (library card) and password. Researched articles can be read in the city library facilities and from the comfort of your own home.
The GENIOS press database is another important component of the Chemnitz City Library's online services for individual, self-directed learning. The ChemNetzBib e-media, the e-learning platform and the Brockhaus online student training programme offer many opportunities to directly access a wide range of digital media and information.
