Chemnitz City Library: Book Summer Saxony a success
Last week, the Book Summer 2023 ended with a cinema screening and closing party in the fully booked Tietz event hall. Participation in the reading promotion project was once again high.
This year, 525 children and young people registered for the book summer, 67 more than last year. Many of the participants were taking part in the book summer for the first time and did not previously have a library card.
There were hundreds of titles from the latest children's and young adult literature to choose from. Exciting thrillers, mystery and fantasy novels, cutting-edge stories about love and life struck a chord with readers.
273 participants read at least three books during the summer holidays and received a certificate. This is an increase of 10 per cent on the previous year. Many German teachers reward the certificate with a grade 1 in the new school year.
The Book Summer Saxony is a reading promotion initiative for young people organised by the public libraries in Saxony and the Saxony State Association of the German Library Association in cooperation with the State Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism (SMWK) and the Chemnitz City Library Supporters' Association. This measure is co-financed by tax funds on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon state parliament.
