Chemnitz city centre is the new location for trainee teachers
The renovated Rawema House is the new centre for teacher training in Chemnitz. Today, Minister of Education Brunhild Kurt hosted the official opening of the Chemnitz teacher training centre in the building at Straße der Nationen 12. Mayor Barbara Ludwig was also on site and is delighted with the decision by the state of Saxony to bring teacher training to the Chemnitz centre: "We have campaigned together for a long time for teachers to be trained in our city again in the hope that they will subsequently work in this profession in our region. Now they have a wonderful place to complete their training. And at the same time, it is another important step towards establishing a city centre campus in the medium term."
In 1997, Chemnitz University of Technology had to discontinue its training programme for primary school teachers. Last year, part of the teacher training programme returned to Chemnitz for the first time: 80 trainee teachers were trained in Lutherstraße. Since August, 191 prospective primary and secondary school teachers have been learning in the newly renovated Rawema building. They can use the third and fourth floors - with a total area of around 2500 square metres.
