Chemnitz City Archive represented on international expert commission

From 2026 to 2029, the Director of the Chemnitz City Archive, Dr Paolo Cecconi, will be a member of the Programme Commission of the International Council on Archives (PCOM).

The members of the International Council on Archives (ICA) elected two new members to the Programme Commission online from 5 May to 2 June 2025. A total of twelve candidates from around the world stood for election.

Dr Paolo Cecconi from the Chemnitz City Archives won the election. Sarah Negumbo, National Archives of Namibia, will join him on the Programme Commission in January 2026.

The International Council on Archives is committed to the efficient management, use and preservation of archives and records worldwide. It was founded in 1948 under the auspices of UNESCO and is based in Paris. The International Council on Archives promotes the international exchange of expertise, research and best practice in the field of archiving. It strives for worldwide co-operation between archivists and other information professionals with the aim of preserving the evidential and cultural heritage of mankind.

The Programme Commission provides strategic development impulses to the International Archives Council and is responsible for the planning, supervision and technical control of the expert groups as well as for the content orientation of professional and technical programmes such as the "New Professionals" and "Training" programmes.

Paolo Cecconi: "Firstly, I would like to dedicate this result to all my colleagues at the City Archives. It is a wonderful recognition of their professionalism. As the Chemnitz City Archive, we were able to provide impetus in national and regional committees for the topics of recruiting specialised staff and digital records management in particular. Last but not least, the level of awareness of our city thanks to the title 'European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025' also played a decisive role in the choice."
