Chemnitz City Archive appointed as board member of international association

The Stadtarchiv Chemnitz has been appointed as a member of the board of the international professional section "Section of Local Municipal and Territorial Archives" (SLMT) for the period from 2021 to 2025.

The tasks of the SLMT include in particular the creation of professional exchange and cooperation between municipal archives worldwide as well as the dissemination of information on archive work and practical models that can be used in conjunction with existing national standards, regardless of the form or medium.

Since 2018, the Stadtarchiv Chemnitz has been a member of the professional section "Section of Local Municipal and Territorial Archives" (SLMT), to which municipal archives (city and district archives) worldwide belong. It is also a member of the International Council on Archives (ICA) and the European Regional Branch ICA (EURBICA), to which archives in Europe belong regardless of their organisation. The ICA is organised on a decentralised basis with 13 regional branches and twelve professional sections.

The International Council on Archives (ICA) is a non-governmental organisation founded in 1948 and based in Paris, which is dedicated to the archives sector. The ICA brings together national archive administrations, municipal and city archives, archives of other organisations, professional associations of archivists and individual archivists. It has around 1500 members from 195 countries and territories. The ICA is a founding member of the cultural protection organisation
"Blue Shield International" organisation. The aim of this organisation is to ensure the national and international protection of archives as part of our cultural heritage.

The ICA is committed to the effective management, preservation, maintenance and accessibility of archives through its representation of professionals. The ICA strives to protect and promote access to archives by establishing standards for the processing and accessibility of archival records, providing professional training and facilitating dialogue between archivists, producers and users of archival records.

For nearly 80 years, the ICA has connected archives worldwide to establish applicable principles of archiving and preservation through international information exchange.
