Following yesterday's events at the Christmas market in Magdeburg, the security measures at the Chemnitz Christmas market have been reviewed and supplemented. This means that the Christmas market in Chemnitz will continue to open regularly in the coming days.
In close coordination between the Chemnitz police department and the city's public order service, the market will now be monitored more closely in addition to the regular patrols.
For several years now, various measures have been taken to minimise the risk to visitors to the Chemnitz Christmas market from cars being used for purposes other than their intended purpose.
As a sign of sympathy, the music at the Chemnitz Christmas market will be played more quietly. The city of Chemnitz extends its sympathy to those affected and their families.
On the initiative of the Chemnitz Christmas market traders, there will be a minute's silence today at 7 pm. The Christmas market will be briefly interrupted to pause together for a moment of silence.
