Chemnitz Christmas Market
Variants for December are being prepared - realisation not permitted in November
The Chemnitz Christmas market cannot take place in November due to the current Corona Protection Ordinance of the Free State of Bavaria. This was announced today by the administration following a discussion in the Council of Elders.
However, discussions are currently being held with traders and restaurateurs in an attempt to bring as much Christmas flair to the city centre as is legally possible and justifiable in terms of health.
For example, the traditional Christmas tree will be erected at the town hall next Saturday. The lights, Christmas figures, Christmas pyramid and music box will be installed and switched on in the market areas from 23 November. The windows of the town hall will once again be decorated with candle arches.
The city is currently in talks with traders about offering a Christmas range in the market areas around the town hall from December, should the legal regulations and coronavirus incidence figures allow this.
The administration is also in talks with restaurateurs about offering Christmas food and drink on Klosterstraße and in the area around the town hall in December.
Whether and how such offers can be realised ultimately depends on the legal framework and the infection situation in December.
