Chemnitz celebrates the Days of Jewish Culture
From 8 to 23 March, Chemnitz celebrates the Days of Jewish Culture. Now in its 23rd edition, the event is one of the most traditional of its kind in eastern Germany. With around 50 events on offer, the Days are more extensive than ever before. The Days of Jewish Culture will open on 8 March at 7:30 pm in the Community Centre of the Jewish Community of Chemnitz. The patron of the Days is Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig, who will also take part in the opening event.
"Now in their 23rd edition, the Days of Jewish Culture are establishing a real tradition in the city - an extremely lively tradition, as the large number of events shows. They are something special, because they do not only present Jewish culture from a historical or political perspective. But because they offer the opportunity to participate in this rich culture, to experience it and to engage with it. I very much hope that as many people as possible will take advantage of this opportunity. Because the Days of Jewish Culture are not just a celebration of the Jewish community in Chemnitz, but a celebration of all Chemnitz residents," says Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig.
Over 20 associations, organisations and institutions are involved in organising the programme. These include concerts, guided tours, readings, discussions, film screenings, lectures, seminars and workshops, cabaret and theatre performances, art exhibitions and church services. In addition, events invite visitors to familiarise themselves with everyday Jewish life, culture and rites, customs and life.
