Chemnitz celebrates Stefan Heym's 100th birthday
Stefan Heym would have been 100 years old on 10 April 2013. This day will be the highlight of the celebrations in Chemnitz to commemorate Heym's life and work. Readings, performances, lectures, discussions, literary walks and much more have been taking place since the beginning of the year and will continue until the end of the year. On 11 and 12 April, academics from all over Europe will also meet in Chemnitz for the International Stefan Heym Conference.

Mayor Barbara Ludwig and Inge Heym will ceremonially unveil the "Stefan Heym-Platz" signs.
19:00, Chemnitz Theatre:
Presentation of the International Stefan Heym Prize of the City of Chemnitz
The writer and dramaturge Christoph Hein receives the International Stefan Heym Prize. At €40,000, this is one of the most highly endowed literary prizes in Germany. The laudatory speech will be held by the writer Ingo Schulze. Following the award ceremony, Christoph Hein will sign the city's Golden Book. The award ceremony will be accompanied by music from the Chemnitz Opera string quartet.
