Chemnitz author becomes city writer in Tampere
In October 2019, Chemnitz author Hans Brinkmann will be travelling to Chemnitz's twin city Tampere as the city writer. He will spend the entire month in Finland.
After the German Cultural Centre in Chemnitz's twin city Tampere offered a city writer residency for October 2019 in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Finland, the city's cultural department and the cultural advisory board issued a limited call for applications to find a city writer for the cultural exchange with the Finnish city.
Following a selection process, the independent jury decided in favour of the Chemnitz author Hans Brinkmann, born in 1956. Hans Brinkmann has been known for more than 30 years, mainly as a poet, storyteller and also as an art and cultural critic, not only to the Chemnitz public. Numerous publications bear witness to this, such as the collection of poems "Schlummernde Hunde" (2006) and the novel "Die Butter vom Brot" (2011). Most recently, "Die Unheit.Gedichte" was published by Eichenspinner Verlag, Chemnitz/Bielefeld.
He has followed previous artist exchanges between Chemnitz and Tampere with sympathy; according to Hans Brinkmann, he is less interested in what remains eternally foreign than in what is similar. We can look forward to reading about his encounters and experiences in the autumn on the blog page of the Goethe-Institut Finland. The information channels of the City of Chemnitz will also report on Hans Brinkmann's stay in Tampere.
