Chemnitz applies to become a Fairtrade Town

Fairtrade Town Festival in the Stadthallenpark

On Saturday, 28 July, the Fairtrade Town Festival will take place in the Stadthallenpark from 3 to 7 pm. The background to the event is the city's application to become a Fairtrade Town. Admission is free.

Under the motto "Enjoyment with a plus", the steering group of the Fairtrade Town application, together with the Chemnitz Environmental Centre, invites you to a festival on the subject of fair trade. There will be play and craft activities for the youngest children, a fair market for strolling and shopping, information stands and a panel discussion with local politicians on the subject of fair trade/fair procurement to stimulate discussion, and DJs and regional food will round off the whole festival.

With the festival, Chemnitz stakeholders are supporting the city's application to become a Fairtrade Town and are inviting the urban community to get involved, participate and position itself as an innovative and cosmopolitan municipality.

The Fairtrade Towns initiative uses the Fairtrade Town seal to recognise cities or municipalities throughout Germany that set a visible example for fair trade and sustainable consumption. The Chemnitz city councillors have joined this campaign with a city council resolution and now, together with representatives from administration, business, civil society and the population, it is time to bring the motto "think globally - act locally" to life.
