Chemnitz & its twin cities - a look at Kiryat Bialik
World Twin Cities Day - events on 24 April, 4 p.m. in the town hall and on 30 April, 2 p.m. in the Jewish community
This year, World Twin Cities Day will be celebrated on Sunday 30 April. In the same week, Israel celebrates the 75th anniversary of its independence. Chemnitz has officially had an Israeli twin city, Kiryat Bialik, since October 2022. However, the friendship between the residents of the two cities goes back almost 15 years. This is why a special focus is being placed on Kiryat Bialik for this year's World Twin Cities Day.
Presentation of joint projects
On Monday, 24 April, from 4 pm, the City of Chemnitz and the association Tage der Jüdischen Kultur Chemnitz e. V. will present the projects they have planned with the youngest twin city this year in a joint event at City Hall. Part of this is a photo exhibition showing the works of photographers from Kirjat Bialik, which can be seen in the exhibition room of the town hall until June. Dr Ilja Kogan from the Chemnitz Museum of Natural History will report on his research trip to Kirjat Bialik and present the natural environment around the town and its history. Two representatives of local women's initiatives will join us live from the twin town to talk about the importance of diversity in town twinning. Afterwards, there will be time for networking and informal dialogue.
Please register for this event by 23 April at: https://mitdenken.sachsen.de/1034577

Afterwards, the Jewish community will provide insights into Israeli and Jewish traditions and invite visitors to enjoy tastings and a colourful cultural programme.
