Chemnitz allotment garden competition 2016

The 2016 allotment garden competition was held in June. The municipal allotment garden competition for the "Most beautiful allotment garden site in Chemnitz" was held under the motto "Ecological and social commitment / sustainability". The award ceremony by Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig will take place next Thursday, 3 November, at 11 a.m. in the Grüner Salon in Chemnitz City Hall.

Review:
The allotment garden associations "Geibelhöhe" e. V. and "Morgenröte" e. V. took part in this year's allotment garden competition, "Morgenröte" e. V. and "Sonnige Höhe" e. V. faced the critical eyes of the seven-member jury consisting of the chairman of the allotment garden advisory board, employees of the green space office, representatives of the federation of allotment gardeners Chemnitz Land e. V. and the city federation of allotment gardeners Chemnitz e. V.
A total of ten criteria formed the basis for the evaluation of the allotment garden sites, including topics such as: Accessibility for the general public, external impact of the allotment garden site, quality of the publicly accessible communal facilities, consideration of environmental and nature conservation concerns and the implementation of allotment garden use. However, the association's activities and the social interaction within the allotment garden association were also included in the overall assessment.
Out of a total of 150 points, the allotment garden association "Sonnige Höhe" e. V. achieved 119 points. The site is particularly impressive with its beautifully maintained communal areas and the constant beautification of its allotment site. In addition to an apiary and bee showcase, there was also an ecologically managed allotment garden to marvel at. A garden of the century is still in the making. The competition winner "Sonnige Höhe" e.V. has thus qualified to take part in the national competition in 2017.
Second place went to the "Geibelhöhe" e. V. association with a gap of just two points (117 points). The diversity of the allotment garden use and design of the plots should be emphasised here. In the allotment garden association "Geibelhöhe" e. V. in particular, the good co-operation between the association board and the members could be experienced directly.
Overall, it became clear that the participation of walkers in the development and prosperity of the allotment gardens and the diversity of the individual plots are of decisive importance for how allotment garden sites are perceived by visitors.
