Chemlympics - the special sports festival
Competition day on 7 May in the athletics hall at the Sportforum
On Saturday, 7 May, from 10 a.m. to around 3.30 p.m., people with various disabilities will come together to compete in the athletics hall at the Sportforum, Reichenhainer Straße 154. This will be the tenth time that the Chemlympics have taken place after a two-year break due to the coronavirus.
Lord Mayor Sven Schulze and Horst Wehner, patron of the Chemlympics since the first competition day in 2011, will open this year's sports festival at 10 am.
Dagmar Ruscheinsky, Mayor for Education, Social Affairs, Youth, Culture and Sport, will hand over the trophies and honour the winners at around 2.45 pm.
Around 120 athletes will be competing in sprinting, medicine ball throwing, target fishing and archery. The best athlete will also be sought in the long jump, and the wheelchair users will compete in carpet curling. In addition, athletes and spectators will once again be offered a great supporting programme.
The eagerly awaited goal for everyone is medals in these disciplines, divided into recreational and competitive athletes. There is also the Mayor's challenge cup for the "special" winning team of the relay races: this is the crowning glory of the sporting event for everyone, participants and spectators alike.
The organising team is made up of representatives from Heim gGmbH, Lebenshilfe Chemnitz, Miteinander statt Gegeneinander e. V., Mobile Behindertenhilfe der Stadtmission Chemnitz e. V., SFZ-Förderzentrum gGmbH, Stadtsportbund and the City of Chemnitz's representative for the disabled, Petra Liebetrau.
