Chemical Cotton Kills. Workshop on the origin of our clothing

On Thursday, 5 November, from 7 to 8.30 pm, the adult education centre invites you to an online workshop about the conditions under which our clothes are made. The workshop will take you on a journey to the countries where textiles are produced and provide an insight into a globalised textile chain. Participation is free of charge. Registration is possible until Thursday, 4 pm atwww.vhs-chemnitz.de or 0371 488 4343. All participants will then receive an access link by email.
Dr André Matthes, Head of Natural Textiles and Sustainability at the Chair of Textile Technologies at Chemnitz University of Technology, will explain the journey of a T-shirt from the cotton field to the wardrobe. A T-shirt, like any other item of clothing, contains a number of resources whose origin and use often remain unclear. It is about the true economic, ecological and social costs of our clothing. In conversation with his audience, Dr Matthes takes a critical look behind the scenes of the fashion industry and also discusses his own consumer behaviour. The textile researcher will provide an overview of textile labels and present various sustainable, ecological and fair initiatives as an aid to personal behaviour. The interactive workshop invites participants to contribute their own thoughts, experiences and ideas on a healthy, sustainable and conscious clothing style. It is important to obtain comprehensive and well-founded information.
