Changed traffic routing at the Zwickauer Straße/Kappler Drehe junction
New cycle lane for safe cycling towards the city centre
Since today, Friday, a new cycle lane in Zwickauer Straße has been guiding cyclists safely towards the city centre. The modified traffic routing at the Zwickauer Straße/Kappler Drehe junction went into operation today with a new stationary traffic light system. This was an important step towards closing the gap in order to be able to offer cycle traffic guidance on Zwickauer Straße that is as continuous as possible.
After the final work was initiated on Thursday with the new markings at the junction, the measures were completed today, Friday.
To continue the cycle path across the Zwickauer Straße/Kappler Drehe junction, the lane layout on the western approach to Zwickauer Straße (coming from Lützowstraße) was changed. The right-hand lane is now exclusively for cycle traffic. A continuous lane remains for motor traffic, from which it is still possible to turn left and right. The new cycle lane in Zwickauer Straße guides cycle traffic safely onto the cycle path in the direction of the city centre over a length of 110 metres. The traffic light control system was adapted to the new lane layout on the western approach to Zwickauer Straße and the cycle signal, which shows "green" first.
As part of these adjustments, the technical systems were also replaced. The total cost of all measures amounts to 103,000 euros.
