Change in registration law as of 1 November 2015
Confirmation from the landlord required when moving house
The Federal Registration Act came into force on 1 November 2015. In this context, the registration authority draws attention to the fact that tenants must present a written confirmation from the landlord or flat owner to the registration authority when registering or re-registering their flat, in which the move-in or move-out is confirmed.
Presentation of the tenancy agreement is not sufficient.
Confirmation is also required when deregistering, but only if you are moving abroad, deregistering a secondary residence or if you are not moving into a new home in Germany (for the time being), e.g. if you are homeless.
