Certified measurement technology analyses road conditions in the city of Chemnitz
From Friday 23 July, all of Chemnitz's roads and paths will be analysed by an engineering firm commissioned by the City of Chemnitz. This will provide a complete and up-to-date overview of the condition of the roads, which will be documented and used as the basis for systematic road maintenance planning for the coming years.
The project is scheduled to run for around two years and will initially start with a survey of the most important main roads such as Südring and Leipziger Straße. Special measuring vehicles equipped with high-resolution cameras and various laser scanners will be used for the survey. (see photo)
The certified measurement technology enables high-precision recording of longitudinal and transverse evenness as well as a detailed analysis of the road surface in the millimetre range.
In addition to analysing the condition of the road, a highly accurate digital surface model of the entire traffic area is created, which is then integrated into the city's geoinformation system.
The resulting image material also supports the operational maintenance activities of the civil engineering department. The resulting road database also serves to fulfil the legal inventory requirements in accordance with the introduction of double-entry accounting in 2011. The road survey is a sub-project for the digitalisation of the administration.
The engineering firm Lehmann + Partner GmbH from Erfurt was commissioned with the project. The costs for this amount to around 300,000 euros.
