What is the 2022 census?
The second register-based census after 2011 will take place in the Federal Republic of Germany in 2022. The census is a statistical survey to determine how many people live, live and work in the Federal Republic of Germany, in the federal states and in the cities and municipalities. Many decisions in the European Union, federal government, federal states and municipalities are based on these population and housing figures.
In order to have reliable basic figures for planning purposes, it is therefore necessary to regularly determine the population figures.
In the Federal Republic of Germany, the 2022 census will be carried out as a register-based population census based on the population registers, supplemented by a household survey and combined with a building and housing census.
The census date is 15 May 2022 and the household surveys will take place between May and July 2022.
