On Saturday, 18 October from 3 to 7 p.m., the City of Chemnitz invites you to a special event in honour of Justin Sonder on the Chemnitz Brühl at the Justin Sonder bench, Brühl 59. The honorary citizen of Chemnitz and Auschwitz survivor would have been 100 years old on this day. To mark the occasion, Mayor Sven Schulze and Sonder's daughter Kerstin Claus will inaugurate a new information column on Justin Sonder at 3 pm. This will be followed by various programme items, including a guided tour of the city and a concert.
Participation is free of charge. In case of bad weather, the event will be moved to the Rosa-Luxemburg-GS sports hall.
Representatives of the media are also invited.
Throughout his life, Justin Sonder has sought dialogue with young people in particular, has educated, aroused interest, raised awareness and campaigned tirelessly for democracy, humanity and openness to the world.
