Classify news in a media-competent way

On Monday, 19 June, from 6.45 to 8.15 pm, interested parties are invited to a workshop on the topic of "Media framing in the field of tension between China and Taiwan: What can and should we believe?". Communication and media scientist Dr Maria Faust will teach participants in the workshop how journalistic sources from Germany and abroad can be analysed and classified in a media-competent manner.

Fake news and polarisation are increasingly dominating the everyday lives of journalists worldwide. Media users are asking themselves: What is still true, and where is false information dominating our everyday media life? Using the example of reporting on China and the conflict over Taiwan in the South China Sea, the challenge for media users to recognise what is "really" happening in the Far Eastern world is made clear.
Firstly, it explains what media frames are and how Western and non-Western journalistic sources should be categorised. In the second part, this will be practically applied to the current topic of China-Taiwan with various newspaper articles from Germany and the (South) East Asian region.
