On Tuesday, 7 January at 3 pm, Mayor Ralph Burghart will welcome the carol singers in the town hall's foyer. Around 30 girls and boys will be accompanied by members of the Catholic parishes of Propstei, St. Johannes Nepomuk, St. Joseph and St. Antonius as well as Annette Kanzler-Saberniak, parish secretary of the Catholic parish of Holy Mother Teresa in Chemnitz.
Representatives of the media are invited to attend.
The carol singers will recite verses and songs, draw the traditional blessing 20*C+M+B+25 (Christus mansionem benedicat - Christ bless this house) over the door of the Council Chamber and ask for donations for children in need. They then visit the community centre on the Wall.
The motto of the 2025 carol singing campaign is "Raise your voice! - Carol singing for children's rights".
Two regions will receive special support with this year's donations: In Turkana in northern Kenya, children have hardly any access to schools or medical care. Extreme weather conditions mean that their plates often remain empty. The Sternsinger partner organisation campaigns for children's rights to health, nutrition and education and runs schools, among other things.
In Colombia, a Sternsinger project partner is campaigning for children's rights to protection, education and co-determination. Children there often experience violence and neglect. Programmes for peace education and participation, as well as specific therapies, strengthen the children.
Attached is the press release, together with best wishes for a healthy and peaceful year 2025.
