Carlowitz and the invention of sustainability
Adult education centre: Online lecture on 3 February, 7 p.m.
On Thursday, 3 February, 7 to 8.30 p.m., the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre invites you to an online lecture entitled "Hans Carl von Carlowitz and the invention of sustainability". Ullrich Göthel, head of the Grüna forestry district, will combine the historical traces of sustainability with new perspectives.
Participation is free of charge. Registration is possible online until 3 pm on the day of the event (see link to the event) or by telephone on 0371 488 4343. An access link will be sent out on the day of the event.
The lecture spans a historical arc from the 18th century to the present day: In 1713, Hans Carl von Carlowitz, Chief Mining Commissioner, was concerned about the shortage of timber. He summarised the knowledge he had gathered over the years in his book "Sylvicultura oeconomica". Almost 300 years after the work was published, the idea of sustainability is more relevant than ever. It combines social, ecological and economic issues.
Forest district manager Ullrich Göthel uses a variety of examples to explain how everything is connected. An enlightening lecture on sustainability, time, history, ecology, climate and people.
The event is a co-operation between the Saxon Hans-Carl-von-Carlowitz-Gesellschaft e. V. and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.
