Carl von Bach, Ferdinand Weinhold and Co. - important scientific estates in Chemnitz

As part of the series "The City Archive presents", a lecture on the topic of "Carl von Bach, Ferdinand Weinhold and Co. - important scientific estates in Chemnitz" will take place next Wednesday, 12 April at 6 pm in the City Archive building, Aue 16. The speaker will be Stephan Luther, Head of the Chemnitz University Archive. Admission is free
The lecture will examine the scholars' estates as an important source in the Chemnitz University Archives. The general question of what additional value such bequests represent for the archives will be explored. To this end, it will of course be explained in principle what ideally belongs in such an estate.
This will be demonstrated using the extraordinarily extensive estate of Carl Bach as an example. This estate contains an incredibly dense collection of documents ranging from his baptismal record to his will, his school and academic education, his scientific activities as a professor and scholar, and his correspondence spanning 60 years of his life. There are also other important bequests, e.g. from Adolf Ferdinand Weinhold, Eugen Ristenpart, Christian Weißmantel and Johannes Volmer. The archive currently contains a total of 36 bequests and estates of academics.
The lecture will outline the legal framework and guidelines for the future acquisition policy of the University Archive in addition to the content aspects of existing estates.
