Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025: First micro-projects get underway
17,000 euros in funding is handed out
For the first time, eleven so-called micro-projects are being funded by the Capital of Culture Office. A jury nominated by the programme council for the Capital of Culture application made the selection. The call for applications launched in August was aimed at associations, initiatives and individual players. The projects will be funded with a grant of up to 2,500 euros. The following projects will be funded:
- Submitter: Manuela Tschök-Engelhardt
Project idea: "Gablenz blossoms" - artistic design (painting) of four distribution boxes in the residential area.
Funding amount: 1,600 euros
- Applicant: Gregor Eichhorn
Project idea: "Der elektrische Reiter" - theatre guest performance, based on a film adaptation of the story with Robert Redford.
Funding amount: 1,200 euros
- Applicant: denkART V. i. G.
"Kreative Entdecker Tour" - Pilot project that aims to bring the Sonnenberg and its history to life. Special guided tours of the neighbourhood are planned, followed by an exchange and artistic documentation of the experiences (e.g. exhibition/opening).
Funding amount: 1,000 euros
- Applicant: Oliver Treydel/Association for the Promotion of Solidarity, Democracy and Political Education in Chemnitz - SDB e.V.
Project idea: Support for an urban garden at the Knappteich pond
Funding amount: 500 euros
- Submitter: Frank Weinhold
Project idea: "Art for creativity" - studio visits, artist talks with visual artists, dramaturges, actors. The aim is to visualise and discuss artistic creative processes.
Funding amount: 800 euros (period 2017 to 2019)
- Applicant: TU Chemnitz, Institute for European Studies
Project idea: "Europe for All" - Deliberative Assembly: Chemnitz residents discuss the future of the EU.
Funding amount: 2,500 euros (period 2017 to 2019)
- Submitter: aaltra
Project idea; "Kwartirnik" - expansion of the living room concert project at aaltra in the context of the Capital of Culture; live broadcast via video channels and online post-presentations.
Funding amount: 2,500 euros
- Applicant: Arthur e.V.
Project idea: "Shifts" - development of an exhibition series in the Medusa Gallery in Haus Arthur; the aim is to promote the connection between art and living space. Pictures, videos and sounds of Chemnitz are created; migrants, the hearing and visually impaired make "their" recordings of Chemnitz.
Funding amount: 2,500 euros
- Applicant: Wiederbelebung kulturellen Brachlands e.V.
Project idea: "Cosmo-Folk" concert series.
Funding amount: 800 euros
- Submitter: Theatre association Front e.V.
Project idea: "Off Theatre" festival from Leipzig stops off in Chemnitz: performances are planned in the "Komplex". The aim is to present contemporary performing arts from less recognised European countries.
Funding amount: 2,000 euros
- Applicant: Holm Krieger
Project idea: "Project Slam" - event similar to a poetry slam, at which project ideas for the European Capital of Culture 2025 are presented.
Funding amount: 1,600 euros
Ferenc Csàk, project manager of the European Capital of Culture application: "Micro-projects are the lifeblood of the European Capital of Culture application. They bring the idea of the European Capital of Culture to life in the city's neighbourhoods."
Further applications for funding as a micro-project are possible until 31 March 2018. The documents must include the planned expenditure, e.g. for materials and fees, and a project description. Project ideas should be sent by email to chemnitz2025(at)stadt-chemnitz.de.
