Campaign for World Refugee Day
Migration Officer: Market of Opportunities on 20 June, 2 to 7 p.m., Neumarkt Chemnitz
On Thursday, 20 June, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., on the occasion of World Refugee Day, interested parties are invited to an event at Neumarkt Chemnitz, which will focus on a humane right to asylum and the reception of refugees.
A market of opportunities will provide information about flight and the causes of flight and promote solidarity with those affected. There will also be speeches and a panel discussion with Dr Mehmet Daimagüler, Federal Government Commissioner against Antiziganism and for the Life of Sinti and Sintizze as well as Roma and Romanja in Germany, on the topics of democracy, diversity and discrimination.
The City of Chemnitz's migration officer, Etelka Kobuß, and the association AGIUA e. V. are organising the event together with other organisations such as refugee associations, religious communities, migrant organisations and other interest groups.
World Refugee Day was first proclaimed in 1914 by Pope Benedict XV with the decree Ethnografica studia in the wake of the First World War and has been held annually ever since. Since 2001, 20 June has been celebrated as World Refugee Day. Prior to this, many countries had their own national refugee days.
