Campaign at the TIETZ: "Live free - NO to violence against women"
To mark International Day of Remembrance, two flags are hoisted at the TU canteen and invitations are extended to events at the Club of Cultures and the Don Bosco House
The Equal Opportunities Officer of the City of Chemnitz, the Chemnitz Women's Initiatives, the Working Group for Girls and Young Women in Chemnitz and the Network against Domestic Violence are taking the International Day of Remembrance against Violence against Women on 25 November as an opportunity to draw attention to the issue with a public campaign entitled "Live free - NO to violence against women" on Monday, 25 November 2013 in Chemnitz city centre.
Citizens and representatives of the media are invited to take part in the campaign. The meeting point is 15:30 at the TIETZ building - where the organisers' contact persons will also provide information and materials.
Two flags with the slogan "Live free - NO to violence against women" will also be hoisted in front of the Chemnitz University of Technology canteen from 25 November. Initiated by Terre des Femmes, more than 1,000 flags were hoisted nationwide last year to make a public statement against violence against women.

An event with an exhibition, report, film and discussion on the topic of "Women on the move in Pakistan, India and Nepal" will take place at the Club der Kulturen (Thüringer Weg 3). At the same time, the Intervention and Coordination Centre against Domestic Violence, in cooperation with the Don Bosco House, is showing the film "Open my eyes" in the film cellar of the house on Sonnenberg (Ludwig-Kirsch-Straße13), the story of a marriage marked by years of violence and the attempt to break out and make a new start.

Background: According to the Equal Opportunities Officer, women live the most dangerously in their own homes - this is true worldwide and also in Germany. Domestic violence is also the most common cause of injury among women, more common than road accidents and cancer combined. For women, the risk of experiencing violence from a relationship partner is far higher than being physically assaulted by a stranger. Education, income, age and religious affiliation are irrelevant. In Germany, one in four women is or has been a victim of domestic violence. One in seven women has experienced rape, attempted rape or sexual assault at some point in her life.
