Call for participation in the 2023 Festival of Cultures

"WE are Chemnitz" - Opening of the Intercultural Weeks on 9 September

Join in and help shape the event! The City of Chemnitz Migration Officer is calling on interested parties to take part in this year's Festival of Cultures and the Intercultural Weeks: Anyone who would like to take part in the opening and the following two-week series of events with their own activities and join with others to set an example for a WE is asked to register their interest in good time using the registration form. The registration deadlines can be found on the respective forms, which are now available here.

This year, the Intercultural Weeks in Chemnitz will be opened by Lord Mayor Sven Schulze as patron of the event series on Saturday, 9 September at 12 noon under the motto "WE are Chemnitz". Guests can look forward to a festival of cultures, spread over eight themed areas, with a colourful programme and lots of information on the subject of immigration and integration.

In the two weeks that follow, clubs, associations, institutions and organisations invite everyone in Chemnitz to find out more about the topics of migration, integration and asylum and to take advantage of offers for tolerant and peaceful coexistence.

Theatre performances, film screenings, dance classes and concerts, country evenings, sporting events, readings and discussions with authors, training courses, lectures, workshops and information events on various topics as well as exchanges between religions and much more are intended to arouse interest in people and encounters. The diversity in the city of Chemnitz should also be reflected in the variety of events on offer and show that a WE is not only possible, but already a reality.

The Intercultural Weeks in Chemnitz are prepared and carried out under the leadership of the Migration Officer in close cooperation with the Migration Advisory Board, the Social Welfare Office, the association AGIUA e. V. Migration Social and Youth Work, the women's centre Lila Villa in the association akCente e. V. and with the support of numerous Chemnitz associations and initiatives.

The organisers also welcome offers of sponsorship and support for the preparation and implementation of the Intercultural Weeks.

With 5,000 events at more than 500 locations throughout Germany, the nationwide Intercultural Weeks are well established. Chemnitz has regularly taken part in the series of events since 1991. The nationwide motto is "New Spaces".

"This allows chains of associations to be formed that symbolise the goals of the Intercultural Week: Opening, shaping, creating, connecting, utilising or entering new spaces. It's about calling for new spaces and recognising new spaces," say the organisers on the Ecumenical Preparatory Committee for Intercultural Week.
