Café Philo: "The future will be bright"

Event organised by the adult education centre on 8 October, 7 p.m., at Lokomov, Augustusburger Straße 102

On Tuesday, 8 October, from 7 to 9.15 p.m., the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre invites you to the free discussion event "Café Philo" at Lokomov, Ausgustusburger Straße 102. Admission is free.

For us modern people, the future is perhaps the most important dimension of time. We live with expectations, hopes and risk calculations, fuelled by a belief in progress. We hope that the future will somehow be better than the present. This distinguishes us from people who have lived and continue to live in traditional societies - with the conviction that the world will not change. However, there are increasing signs that our optimism could be deceptive. The capitalist economic system is running into difficulties, poverty and conflicts are not being overcome, climate change is becoming a global threat. This has shaken our positive outlook and optimistic vision of the future. This is reason enough to address the topic at Café Philo and enter into dialogue with you.

Café Philo is a free discussion event dedicated to one overarching topic per semester. The topic is fanned out in four moderated individual discussions and experts are brought in where necessary. The aim is not to obtain knowledge that can be tested, but rather the discussion itself as a combination of experience, science and theory. Café Philo is a co-operation between the Freie Institut für Bildung e. V. and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.
