Bundestag election 2013 - for election Sunday on 22 September

The election to the 18th German Bundestag will take place on Sunday, 22 September. 201,300 Chemnitz residents are called upon to vote for members of parliament. Every voter has two votes, a first and a second vote. In constituency 162 Chemnitz, eight constituency candidates are running for a direct mandate for the Bundestag. The direct candidate who will represent the constituency in the next Bundestag will represent twelve parties with their state lists. The distribution of votes for the state lists determines the distribution of seats in the next Bundestag. The second vote is decisive for the election by Land lists and consequently the distribution of seats.

The 161 polling stations in Chemnitz will open at 8 a.m. sharp on Sunday. They are located in 71 buildings. These include school buildings as well as numerous municipal and non-municipal facilities and volunteer fire brigade equipment centres.

The orderly running of the Chemnitz polling stations is ensured by 1,800 volunteer electoral assistants in 161 general electoral boards. The determination of the postal vote results is in the hands of 26 postal voting boards.

On election Sunday, interested citizens can follow the election results of the Bundestag election in Chemnitz in a live presentation in the town hall on the market square: In the city council chamber of the town hall (on the 2nd floor), a large projection will be used from 6 p.m. to publicly present the quick registration results transmitted from the 161 general Chemnitz electoral districts and the 26 postal voting districts for the Bundestag election. A provisional result is expected between 7.30 pm and 8 pm.

The district electoralcommitteefor constituency 162 Chemnitz will hold its public meeting to determine and establish the final election result for the election to the German Bundestag on Wednesday, 25 September at 10 a.m. in the town hall, Markt 1, consultation room 118.
